Santa Barbara Dance Alliance (SBDA) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster, promote and increase awarness and quality of dance and other performing arts in Santa Barbara, and to bring the dance/arts community and its resources together.
We produce 5 events each year:
NEW WORKS: Santa Barbara Choreographers.
Selected local choreographers present their latest works; a feast of originality revealing the depth of the dancers' art.
BASSH: Ballroom, Argentine Tango, Salsa, Swing & Hip Hop.
Santa Barbara's prize winning professional dancers and nationals competitors come together to heat up the Lobero stage.
ON THE VERGE: Teen Choreographers' Showcase.
Pre-professional teen choreographers create their own work under the guidance of mentors. Workshops in choreography, costuming, lighting and music for dance are given, as well as opportunities for educational outreach.
INTERNATIONAL DANCE AND MUSIC FESTIVAL.
Dance, classes, and music representing the rich diversity of Santa Barbara's many ethnic cultures.
THE DANCERS BALL.
Fun, food, exhibition performers, silent auction and dance dance dance!
MASTER CLASSES.
SBDA in collaboration with UC Santa Barbara's Arts & Lectures, present a master class series each year. For 2007-2008 we proudly presented community classes with these modern masters: Pilobolus, Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie, Company Ea Sola, Rubberbandance Group, State Ballet of Georgia, La La La Human Steps, Crying Out Loud: Aurelia's Oratorio, Eiko & Koma, and Mark Morris Dance Group.
DANCE EDUCTAION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.
SBDA believes strongly that our youth are the "FDA" --Future Dancers of America. To ensure that Santa Barbara County's youth are having their dance futures cultivated, SBDA has a Youth Dance Education Scholarship Program.
